Welcome to The Academy at Ocean Reef
Located within the Ocean Reef Club on Key Largo North, FL, The Academy educates the children of members and employees of the private island community. Additionally, a limited number of students from the adjacent communities are eligible for enrollment. The school's 23,000 sq. ft. facility houses a library, gymnasium, outdoor play area, science lab, and music room. The other extensive facilities on the Reef greatly enhance the school's program. These include: 18 hole golf course, tennis courts, pool, beach and lagoon, scuba, fishing, marina, a private airstrip, restaurants, shops, public library, and centers for performing and creative arts.
Our program (PS - 8) provides a student to teacher ratio of 6:1 that allows for flexible programming and individual attention. We take advantage of technology using digital projectors, SmartBoards, high definition displays, iPads, laptops, and online learning opportunities including BrainPop, Accelerated Reader, and Writers Workbench.
We offer a homeroom structure with combined classes according to age and ability. Weekly specials include: music, dance, art, physical education, technology, and Spanish. The athletic program focuses on "life" sports with weekly golf, tennis, and sailing (in season). Students may also take karate or dance for an additional fee.
Our school offers a Seasonal Program whereby visiting students enroll during the winter season. Children and grand children of Ocean Reef members regularly visit our island in the Florida Keys and enroll for a week, weeks, or a month(s). This is a unique benefit for the Ocean Reef membership, and our flexible program brings families closer together.
