The Academy at Ocean Reef: Grades K - 8Located within the Ocean Reef Club on Key Largo North, FL, The Academy educates the children of members and employees of the private island community. The school is housed in a 23,000 sq. ft. facility that houses a library, gymnasium, outdoor play area, science lab, and music room. The other extensive facilities on the Reef greatly enhance the school's program. These include: 18 hole golf course, tennis courts, pool, beach and lagoon, Scuba, fishing, marina, a private airstrip, restaurants, shops, public library, and centers for performing and creative arts. Our program (PK - 8) provides a student to teacher ratio of 6:1 that allows for flexible programing and individual attention. We take advantage of technology using digital projectors, SmartBoards, high definition displays, Ipads, laptops, and online learning opportunities including Florida Virtual Courses, United Streaming, BrainPop, Writersworkbench, Accelerated Reader, Yourteacher.com, and Writers Workbench. Google Apps email and "cloud" computing. We offer a progressive approach to enrollment with a homeroom structure and combined classes according to age and ability. Weekly specials include: music, dance, art, technology, Spanish, and Latin. The athletic program focuses on "life" sports with weekly golf, tennis, and sailing (in season). Students may also take karate or ballet for an additonal fee. Our school offers a Winterim Program whereby visiting students enroll during the winter season. Children and grand children of Ocean Reef members regularly visit our island in the Florida Keys and enroll to keep up with their home school curriculum. This is a unique benefit for the Ocean Reef membership, and our flexible program brings families closer together. |
